What should I do if the screw is broken?

Screws are essential in home decoration and construction projects. But during the use process, different problems may arise, such as the situation where the screw is broken, which can cause a headache. So how should we handle it? You can follow the following six steps to handle it, let’s take a look together.

The first step is to remove the sludge on the surface of the broken wire and use a center cutter to cut off the center of the section. Then, install a drill bit with a diameter of 6-8mm using an electric drill and drill at the center of the section. Pay attention to the hole being drilled. After drilling, remove the small drill bit and replace it with a drill bit with a diameter of 16mm, continuing to expand the hole for the broken bolt.

The second step is to take a welding rod with a diameter less than 3.2mm and use a small current to weld the broken bolt from the inside out. At the beginning of welding, take half of the total length of the broken bolt. At the beginning of welding, do not let it take too long to avoid burning through the outer wall of the broken bolt. After welding to the upper end face of the broken bolt, continue to weld a cylinder with a diameter of 14-16 millimeters and a height of 8-10 millimeters.

The third step is to use a hammer to strike the end face after surfacing, causing the broken bolt to vibrate along its axial direction. Due to the heat generated by the previous arc and subsequent cooling, as well as the vibration at this time, it can cause loosening between the broken bolt and the body thread.

Step five: When it becomes cold or hot after welding, use a ring wrench on the nut and twist it back and forth from one side to the other. You can also twist back and forth while gently tapping the nut end face with a small hammer to remove the broken bolt.

Step six: After removing the broken bolt, use a suitable wire hammer to reprocess the threads inside the frame and remove rust and other debris from the hole.

I hope the above will be helpful to you. For more knowledge and requirements on fasteners, please follow us.
