A blind rivet is a type of fastener that can be installed from one side of the material being joined, making it ideal for applications where access to both sides of the workpiece is not possible or convenient. The rivet is inserted into a pre-drilled hole in the material. A special tool (rivet gun) pulls the mandrel, which causes the end of the rivet to flare out and create a secure hold. Once the expansion is complete, the mandrel breaks off at a predetermined point, leaving the rivet securely fastened.
